Guy and Lyall, both qualified chefs based out of Cape Town, just love to cook. They found themselves cooking way too much at every meal, and sharing their food with the people they love. Pretty soon, more and more people were placing orders for their rustic, healthy menu and Guyall's Kitchen was born. Guyall's Kitchen has a brand new menu released every Tuesday. They take orders, make the food, freeze portions and then deliver to your door on Friday.
Until now they've been running their business on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp and were looking for a next-step solution in the form of a website. They had already signed up for Squarespace and asked me to put together a site for them.
- Client questionnaire
- Site map
- Landing page
- Site build
- Third party form
- Snapscan integration
- Squarespace tutorial
- Custom CSS
With the themes of braaied food, and farm-fresh ingredients, we went for a colour palette of charcoal greys, warm tomato reds and oranges and elements of dark green. These colours were incorporated through the site imagery, headings, fonts, buttons and links.
Template & customisation
I started with Squarespace's Basil template, which I chose for its parallax effects and index structure. The one challenge with this theme is that it is rather greedy! When grouping pages together to form a long-scrolling page like I did with both the Home and About pages, you end up using up quite a few of the pages available on this particular subscription. There were also a number of custom features I needed to incorporate, like a rotating reviews block, custom colouring and font on the standard form block, and an accordion style FAQ page. Here's an example of the rotating reviews I'm referring to.
Cheers to this creative pair as they continue to grow their business. And if you're in Cape Town, why not have a look at their menu and put your order in!
Feel free to contact me if you're ready to take the next step with your business, and have your website beautifully built.
