As part of the World Design Capital 2014, the crowd-funded Muizenberg Festival was held from the 5-12 October 2014. In the spirit of community involvement, I volunteered to guest post for the @MuizenbergFestival Instagram account, attending many of the workshops, concerts, community projects, and studio tours on offer and posting live from the events. Some of my highlights of the festival were the Open Studio Tour, where a variety of artists opened their homes and studios to the public to wander through, meet them and get a glimpse into their personal lives. Cartoonist Andy Mason presented a number of brilliant interactive workshops on the power of visual journaling or 'drawing your life'. Festival goers were treated to a street parade involving the intricately built 'Snoek Dragon', the longest walking fish you've ever seen, and the BlueBird Garage hosted an art and design expo showcasing local design work. Muizenberg, true to style, pulled together to provide a brilliant, family friendly, community focused festival. Next year, top on my list of events to attend are the pug race, and the retro surfing contest.
